My name is Sarah Painter. I initially created the Carpool Day Project because I wanted to make a difference to the traffic problems in Auckland where I live. I was inspired by my partner Ian and his family – they carpool into the city every day. One day I got a lift and it was a lot of fun sharing a ride with them - a lot more fun than I'd expected! We chatted, did quizzes on the radio and best of all we whizzed down the carpool lanes and were quickly in the city. I felt good knowing I was doing something positive for the environment.
Auckland was my original focus but now Carpool Day has grown – we've had lots of positive feedback and interest since we launched our website and now we're encouraging people all around New Zealand to get involved.
Carpool Day is about trying out carpooling – it may be something you continue, or maybe it won't. By carpooling on Wednesday August 5 you can find out if carpooling is for you.
Carpool Day is how I'm making a difference. I hope you'll join me.
Warm regards,
Sarah Painter
